Ko Lanta National Marine Park

Ko Lanta’s National Marine Park, with its twin bays and beautiful lighthouse, can be found on Lanta’s southern-most tip.

About 30 minutes from Lanta Old Town by jeep or truck, it is home to a huge range of wildlife, including over 100 species of birds, large monitor lizards, deer, wild pigs, languor monkeys, flying lemurs, civets, macaques, pythons, cobras and much more. There is a path you can follow to take a 1 hour trek through this breathtaking natural scenery.

The main entrance is near Ao Mai Pai or known as Last Beach on the West coast – there is currently no paved road from Kantiang Bay to the very south of the island and the last 6km are not advised after heavy rain. It is possible to hire a local boat from the Pier and arrive the easy way from Lanta Old Town.

Bay at Lanta Marine Park
The park itself has picnic areas, toilets & showers and two nice beaches, Had Hin Ngam and Had Tanod. There is an interesting one hour walk through beautiful, unspoiled jungle, starting at the Park Headquarters and offering excellent nature-watching opportunities along the way. Remember to take water with you, as the small shop/visitor centre is not always manned. It’s also a beautiful place to take a picnic along with you and there are picnic tables provided in the shady plateau behind the twin beaches.

A great spot for photos
The small light house, a well-known symbol of Ko Lanta stands on the southern point of the cliff-face, and is a popular spot for taking photos of the fantastic panoramic view.
