Sunday Market
Every Sunday afternoon, from around 3pm, there is a traditional Thai market set up next to the pier. This is a ‘must see’ for visitors to Old Town, not just for the colourful display of produce on offer but also to mingle with the locals. The whole village turns out to buy what they need and to chat with other villagers, or just to stroll around. There are hot food stalls with sausages, fried chicken, donuts and other sweets, stalls that sell all manner of locally produced soft drinks, clothing, meat and fish, and the always present ‘plastics shop’ selling a wide range of everyday items for a few baht each. Join the locals and take a stroll around this uniquely Thai tradition.
