The Hammock House is home to the largest selection of quality hammocks in Thailand and is located in one of Old Town’s traditional wooden stilt houses, overlooking the sea.

With a Jumbo Hammock, it’s not only you who gets to relax, but also the manufacturer! All our hammocks are hand-woven by the Mlabri tribe of northern Thailand.

The Mlabri are an enigmatic group of about 300 people who, until a few decades ago, used to live a nomadic life as hunters and gatherers in the dense forests and high mountains of Northern Thailand.

They would build temporary structures of bamboo sticks thatched with fresh, green banana leaves and occupy these for a few days, until the leaves turned yellow – then it was time to move on.

Since the proof of their existence consisted mostly of these abandoned huts, they were given a traditional Thai name of “Phi Tong Luang”, meaning “Spirits of the Yellow Leaves”. However, since they are peaceful people, they wish to be referred to as “People of the Forest”.

Due to deforestation, their once nomadic life style in the jungles of North Thailand is no longer an option and they struggled for long time to find a suitable alternative. Now, by making these quality hammocks, they have been able to establish financial independence within their home village. The project makes alternatives such as tough fieldwork or sweatshop labor unnecessary. Instead it has brought them healthcare and probably the first unemployment fund in Thailand. Mlabri Hammock:

Strong, soft & cool cotton, heavy duty. Ideal for indoors and in dry & shady places.

The Mlabri Hammock is your ticket to becoming a happy hammocker! This thick, coarse string hammock is strong enough to pull a truck & will hold up to 250kg.

The dense weave stretches nice and wide & gives great support as it adapts to your body shape. Natural cotton will keep you cool in warm weather and also has a good resistance against ambers from fires & cigarettes.

Overal this is a basic hammock with excellent features: it is wide, sturdy & comfortable

This hammock is intended for indoor usage or in dry & shady places, as the cotton will suffer from UV light. Don’t leave wet.

Sitting Hammock:

Chair stretches to full body length. Designs you won’t find anywhere else.

Our customer’s favorite! Easy on hanging space, versatile in usage. Suspend it from one spot and it becomes a swivel chair.

Unlike normal hanging chairs, the Mlabri sitting hammock stretches to full body length & allows you to sit and lie in various positions.

Great sitting hammocks are hard to find, even in Mexico. The require superb manual skills, mastered only by a few. Now the Mlabri have improved both colors and designs.

Just like a new T-shirt, this cotton hammock will feel more pleasant and soft after you have worn it a few times. To keep colors from fading, avoid direct sunlight and rain.

Travel & Super-Jumbo Hammock:

Our weatherproof hammocks come in two sizes. The Travel jumbo features an optimal combination between comfort, size & weight. It was designed for the independent traveler but will hold the weight of a pleasant encounter.

Light weight, soft, top quality acrylic yarn. Weather proof (anti-rot), you can even pack it wet before a journey. A Super jumbo has all the qualities of it’s smaller brother, only it is so big you can fit the family.

You will find that these acrylic hammocks are much softer, stretchier and therefore more comfortable than the traditional nylon version. Colors will stay bright for many years.

Sink away into one of these Magic Carpets and experience the result of 15 days of meticulous hand work. 150,000 loops combine over 3 km of soft yarn in a unique V-weave that will slightly change color as you move. One of the most comfortable hammocks I have ever tried, and definitly family size.

The V-Weave hammock comes in either thin cotton or triple acrylic yarn. Natural breathing cotton feels great and stays cool in warm weather. The weather proof version (acrylic) is thicker and has different color effects. Up to your taste.

Parachute Hammock:

Super light, extra compact. Easy for travel & outdoors. Will fit 2 people.

Parachute hammocks are light, compact and very practical. You can take ‘em anywhere… and hang ‘em anywhere. Parachute nylon is quite strong and will easily hold 2 persons, just check that your hanging structure is strong enough.

Like any decent hammock, the parachute is wide enough to lie in comfory, diagonal position. Ok for over night sleeping, if necessary with mozzie net, rain shelter, anti-wildlife cage. Just make sure you hang it level because you will slide to the lowest point of gravity.

No problem if it gets moist, but protect from direct UV-sun light. Careful with sharp objects & ambers from campfires or cigarettes.
